Stan
STANLEY KONG
Principal

Stan is a Senior Finance Professional with 20 years of experience in accounting, internal and external financial reporting and process/ controls. Prior to KBC, he was the first finance hire at Airbnb, where he helped scale Finance, Customer Services, and HR amid their dynamic growth. Prior to KBC, he held two different roles at eBay Inc. over a 7 year period. He also spent 8 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in the audit practice in San Francisco.

Principal

Carolyn is a Big 4 CPA and Senior Finance professional with over 20 years of experience in accounting, financial planning and analysis, financial due diligence, acquisition integration, internal and external financial reporting and SOX. She held various positions at eBay Inc. including StubHub CFO, Sr. Director of Corporate FP&A and Director of PayPal Accounting Operations. She also spent 10 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in the audit and transaction services group in San Jose, Milan & Minneapolis.

KongBasileConsulting (KBC) is a finance and accounting firm focusing on servicing VC backed technology start-ups. While our team and clients are primarily based in the San Francisco Bay Area; we also service clients in Southern California, New York, Seattle, and Austin.

We are a team of hardworking professionals who desire to guide our clients in the start-up community to achieve sustainable growth and profitability. To serve this mission, we are seeking motivated and knowledgeable finance & accounting professionals, who can provide our clients with the financial information they need to make key decisions for their company’s success.

Working both remotely and from client sites, this position will report to Stan Kong and Carolyn Basile, Principals of the firm. The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience in accounting, finance and/or consulting, and have the knowledge and capabilities to build a strong accounting function and team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the client’s business and accounting operations
  • Manage multiple client relationships and accounting teams simultaneously
  • Establish and oversee the monthly financial close process by allocating team resources appropriately
  • Review the financial close package which (can) include financial statements, budget vs. actual analysis, forecast, and reporting for the Board of Directors
  • Lead monthly close meetings with the client and/or participate in Board of Directors’ meetings
  • Advise and apply complex accounting topics such as revenue recognition, sales tax, consolidation, and international operations
  • Assist the client with financial planning & analysis by preparing forecasting and other appropriate financial models
  • Oversee the accounting team to support the clients’ day-to-day finance & accounting operations
  • Ensure the client’s operations scale by identifying, advising, and leading automation, process enhancement and system implementation initiatives
  • Manage relationships with clients and their investors, banks, tax accountants, and external auditors
  • Ensure the client is compliant with regulating and taxing authorities
  • Support the client and other team members with various analyses and ad hoc projects
  • Own client engagement economics by allocating resources appropriately and identifying areas to improve efficiency
  • Train, develop and mentor KBC team members to meet KBC’s quality standards/client expectations and to prepare them for progression within the firm
  • Develop the KBC brand in the tech community through recruiting and business development

You bring:

  • 8+ years of experience across Big 4 audit and corporate accounting environments
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA license preferred
  • Strong Excel skills and adaptability to new technology and tools
  • Technical knowledge of GAAP / IFRS / SEC accounting and reporting requirements
  • Meaningful experience participating in month-end closing activities
  • Knowledge of and experience with financial planning & analysis
  • Knowledge of and experience with start-up accounting tools and systems (Quickbooks, Xero, NetSuite, Expensify, Bill.com, Gusto, etc.)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and reconciliation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management and client service skills
  • Confidence and curiosity to take on new learning experiences

    team resources appropriately, reviewing account reconciliations and analyzing data and journal
    entries
  • Review the financial close package which (can) include financial statements, budget vs. actual
    analysis, forecast, and reporting for the Board of Directors
  • Advise and apply complex accounting topics such as revenue recognition, sales tax, consolidation,
    and international operations
  • Assist the client with financial planning & analysis by preparing forecasting and other appropriate
    financial models
  • Lead the accounting team to support the day-to-day finance & accounting operations of the client
  • Ensure the client’s operations scale by identifying, advising, and leading automation, process
    enhancement and system implementation initiatives
  • Manage relationships with clients and their investors, banks, tax accountants, and external
    auditors
  • Ensure the client is compliant with regulating and taxing authorities
  • Support the client and other team members with various analyses and ad hoc projects

You bring:

  • 5-8 years of experience across Big 4 audit and corporate accounting environments

  • Strong Excel skills and adaptability to new technology and tools
  • Technical knowledge of GAAP / IFRS / SEC accounting and reporting requirements
  • Meaningful experience participating in month-end closing activities
  • Knowledge of and experience with financial planning & analysis
  • Knowledge of and experience with start-up accounting tools and systems (Quickbooks, Xero,

  • Prepare/analyze the financial close package which (can) include financial statements, budget vs. actual analysis, forecast, and reporting for the Board of Directors
  • Support the day-to-day finance operations of the client; including activities such as invoicing customers, reviewing A/P and expense reports, corresponding with vendors and contractors, assisting client employees with on/off-boarding and payroll questions
  • Support the client’s operations to grow and scale by participating in automation, process enhancement and system implementation initiatives
  • Facilitate relationships with and fulfill compliance requests from investors, banks, tax accountants, and external auditors
  • Support the client, Accounting Manager, and other team members with various analyses and ad hoc projects
  • Train and supervise Accounting Staff to meet KBC’s quality standards and client expectations

You bring:

  • 3-5 years of experience across Big 4 audit and corporate accounting environments
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA license preferred

  • Support the day-to-day finance operations of the client; including activities such as reviewing A/P and expense reports, corresponding with vendors and contractors, assisting client employees with on/off-boarding and payroll questions
